General Aviation Simulation Manufacturer Application
The development of general aviation simulators for pilot training applications frequently requires the simulation manufacturer to import simulation databases from a wide range of data sources. The formats of the incoming model databases typically do not coincide with the simulation
manufacturer's native model host format. Consequently, any incoming model data typically has to be converted and verified, a tedious process that can be easily mishandled, particularly when the models are intricate.
A well-known simulation manufacturer received a complex simulation database from the aircraft manufacturer that was delivered in the IATA Standard Data Table format. Rather than hand convert the entire data set, the manufacturer used AeroPort to import the IATA data into the D-Six
Exchange format. Once in this common table form, the manufacturer was able to export the data tables back out through AeroPort to their host environment format. Besides the format conversion capability, the tools in AeroPort allowed the user to manipulate the table structure, variable
names and functionality to suit the target simulation environment. The tedious and error prone process of converting an external data set to their native format was completed quickly and efficiently and the simulation tables were ready to be linked to their host environment. The append
database feature also let them incorporate later model updates in a seamless process.
