Aerodynamic Analysis for Motor Sports
Bihrle Applied Research provided testing services for a well know Winston Cup racing team. A custom pressure test was performed to assess flow interaction between the wind-screen and spoiler. Pressure tap were placed across the cars wind screen and spoiler. During testing, the car was
reconfigured to match race-day specifications. For each configuration, pressure data were collected, processed, and displayed while total force and moment data were collected. This rapid display of data provided the race team with almost real-time feedback of component flow
contributions to total down force and drag.
