Bihrle
Applied Research can handle all your model needs. Working exclusively
with Foley Manufacturing, Bihrle can oversee the construction or modification
of most any type of scaled models. These models can be produced using
electronic drawings from a variety of CAD formats
(dwg, dxf, iges,
etc.), as well as from Mylar or paper drawings. Models can be constructed
using many types of materials from balsa and plywood to the latest composites
like Kevlar and carbon fibers. The models can be built to accommodate
component testing with removable wings and tail surfaces. When needed,
a complete array of pylons and stores can also be designed and built
to allow testing of multiple configurations. Existing models can also
be adapted to interface with the balance and test rigs. When fast turn
around time is required many model modifications can be done onsite.
Dynamic Test Models
These lightweight models, used for rotary balance and force oscillation testing, requirespecialized building techniques which have been developed to meet the low weight and inertial requirements of the dynamic test techniques while providing adequate strength and stiffness. These
models typically are about 4 to 5 feet long with approximately 3 to 4 foot wing span. These models can also be used for low speed static testing.
Static Test Models
Models can be used for static testing. Lightweight models may be used for low-speed testing, or a model may be made for only static testing where the desired weight and construction requirements can be met. Static test models may be full-sized UAVs or F15 radomes.
Pressure Test Models

Pressure
models may be built for static or dynamic testing. These models can
have a row of taps installed to analyze the flow field over the surface
or contain over 500 taps distributed throughout the model. The model
may be built as a lightweight model that can be used for dynamic pressure
testing or a full scale model for static pressure testing.
Powered Test Models
Powered
models are normally built in the same manner as, or modified from, a
dynamic test model. The front cowling is designed to be removable to
accommodate an electric motor and prop for testing propeller effects.
The motor is mounted to the sting using a custom built mounting designed
to isolate the motor interactions from the balance and model. Props
are custom designed and built to a scale representation of the test
conditions.

RPV Flight Test Models
RPV
flight test models can be built using the latest in composite materials.
Propulsion systems can be a conventional engine with prop, ducted turbofan,
or the new genuine turbojet engines. All surfaces can be actuated and
instrument sensor packages can be installed to record test flight conditions
and parameters.
